Is this training a legal requirement?
In England, Section 181 of the Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a statutory requirement for CQC-registered health and social care providers to ensure that staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their roles. The Oliver McGowan Code of Practice sets out standards for meeting this requirement, with reference to the Skills for Health Core Capabilities Frameworks and role-appropriate levels of capability.
This specific leadership course is not itself identified as a mandatory qualification in legislation. Employers should assess training needs according to staff responsibilities, the services provided and applicable requirements. Completing this course may support relevant continuing professional development, but it should not be assumed to satisfy every element of an employer’s statutory training obligations.
