Course overview
This online course teaches employees how to recognise common fire safety signs, understand workplace evacuation procedures and respond safely if a fire occurs. It explains the purpose of fire detection systems, alarm equipment, fire extinguishers, fire blankets and evacuation guidance, and highlights the importance of preventing false alarms and understanding different evacuation strategies. Is this training a legal requirement?
UK legislation does not prescribe this specific course by name, but employers have legal duties to provide appropriate fire safety information, instruction and training for employees. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, responsible persons must ensure staff receive suitable fire safety training when they begin work and whenever new or increased risks are introduced. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 also places duties on employers to protect employees and others affected by their activities. There is no single legal renewal period, and many organisations provide annual refresher training or update training following changes to fire procedures, workplace risks, legislation or equipment.
