Course overview
This online course gives learners the knowledge needed to safely prepare, handle, store and sell food in retail environments. It covers the everyday practices that reduce contamination, maintain food quality and protect customers from foodborne illness. Learners explore personal hygiene, cleaning procedures, food storage, allergen management, stock rotation, pest control, food hygiene ratings and the handling of high-risk foods commonly found in retail businesses. The course takes approximately two hours and is CPD accredited.

Is this training a legal requirement?
UK food law requires food handlers to receive supervision, instruction and training appropriate to their work activities. Legislation does not specifically require a Level 2 certificate, but employers must ensure staff are competent to handle food safely. Providing appropriate food hygiene training helps organisations meet their duties under the Food Safety Act 1990, the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 and Regulation (EC) No. 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs (retained in UK law). A Level 2 qualification is widely recognised as an appropriate standard for many retail food handling roles.

Assessment and certificate
