Is this training a legal requirement?
No UK law states that every worker must complete Safeguarding Children Level 2 training. However, employers have legal safeguarding responsibilities under legislation including the Children Act 1989 and the Children Act 2004, as well as the statutory guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children. Organisations are expected to ensure staff receive safeguarding training appropriate to their role, and healthcare providers should also follow relevant professional safeguarding competency frameworks. For professionals who regularly work with children, Level 2 training is widely recognised as good practice and is often required by employers, commissioners and regulatory bodies. Many employers recommend refresher training every one to three years, although requirements may differ depending on the role, sector, local safeguarding partnership or professional regulator.
