Paediatric First Aid Level 3 – Online Course
Course overview
This online course teaches learners how to recognise, assess and respond to medical emergencies affecting babies and children. It focuses on age-appropriate first aid techniques and helps learners understand how children’s needs differ from those of adults. It also covers accident prevention, incident reporting and the importance of acting quickly while awaiting emergency medical assistance. The course takes approximately three hours and is CPD accredited.
Please note: The course provides online, knowledge-based paediatric first aid training. It does not replace any regulated or practical paediatric first aid qualification that an employer or early years provider may require.

Is this training a legal requirement?
Paediatric first aid training is not universally required by law for every workplace. However, many childcare providers must ensure appropriate first aid arrangements are in place under UK health and safety legislation. In England, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework requires providers to have staff with appropriate paediatric first aid qualifications available, with specific requirements for newly qualified staff and those caring for young children. Employers must also comply with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, which require adequate and appropriate first aid provision based on workplace risks. A suitable first aid needs assessment helps employers decide the level of training required. Many employers recommend refreshing paediatric first aid knowledge every three years, or sooner if policies or risk assessments indicate this.

Learners complete an online multiple-choice test. After successfully completing the assessment, they can download a CPD-accredited digital certificate straight away. The course is delivered online with instant access, so it can be studied on a phone, tablet or computer at the learner’s own pace.
